Wedding Cake Ideas

Generally when we think of your wedding cake, most of us envisage the traditional tiered fruitcake covered with white icing and maybe an edible flower or two for decoration, topped with the bride and groom statues.

Of course this style of traditional wedding cake still remains popular, however there are a great deal of different options available to the bride and groom when deciding on your desired wedding cake.

Recently tiered fairy cake wedding cakes have become more and more popular, and it is a nice way to show that you want your wedding to be a little contemporary, it also allows every wedding guest to own their own “miniature” wedding cake.

To match the theme of the wedding, consider coloured icing or perhaps coloured icing decorations to match the scheme are also popular ideas.

Why not really get away from the traditional tiered wedding cake idea, and have fairy cakes with your wedding guests initials iced onto each individual cake, perhaps even use them as a sort of place card or wedding favor ?

Something that makes a great desert as well as a unique wedding cake idea is a tower of profiteroles, a stacked pyramid style covered in delicious chocolate and filled with fresh cream, your wedding guests will just love getting stuck into them.
Or how about miniature meringues, which also make a good tower idea, perhaps with fruit inserts.

Whatever your choice of wedding cake you opt for, make sure it matches the overall style of your wedding though.
And by that we mean, perhaps a chocolate cake may be a superb choice for a winter wedding, yet a lighter sponge cake may best suited to a summer marquee wedding, where as a wedding in a country barn may match a rustic theme for your fairy cakes.

You’ll want your guests to enjoy the taste too, not just look fantastic in all your wedding photographs.
Fruitcake remains a popular choice for couples, as well as having a much longer life if you’re planning on sharing it out with invited guests who couldn’t make your wedding day.

If you are planning a tiered wedding fruitcake, it is an old wedding tradition to save the top tier and cut it on the christening of your first born child.
Other exciting wedding cake ideas are carrot cake, chocolate, plain sponge or perhaps even lemon cake.

If you’re planning on having a few tiers, why not ask your baker for a few different flavours, potentially this may push the price up, yet if it’s what you want then ask your cake designers if they can create it for you.

When you sit down to discuss your cake ideas with your baker, try and show them some photos of your ideas, or even better, ask them for photographs of their previously made wedding cakes.
